I had to check three times to make sure I spelled these two words correctly.
Torturous is easier to remember in my opinion, because it sounds like what it means. Torturous kinda sounds like torture - and that's right! The word means extremely painful.
Tortuous was harder for me to remember until I realized that it sounds a little like tortoise. And tortuous describes tortoise-like meandering that is twisty, turny, convoluted, and not at all straightforward.
These shortcuts have definitely helped me, so give it a shot!
And here's to hoping that preparing for the SAT/ACT is neither a torturous nor a tortuous process!
